Larry Wilson with his award Larry Wilson retired in 2013 after serving for 38 years as CEO of Coastal Federal Credit Union. When he started, the credit union had 3 employees and 3,900 members. Under his leadership, Coastal has grown to have over 400 employees and more than 190,000 members. Larry's tenure was marked by steady growth and prosperity, even in the effects of a down economy in 2008 and 2009. The credit union emerged through the downturn stronger than ever after strategic changes with Larry at the helm. Larry's success can also be attributed to his commitment toward serving members and listening to their needs. He promotes innovation to better serve cooperative members and encourages projects that bring cooperatives together for the good of the industry and community.

Credit union leaders across the state and country know of Larry Wilson and have been positively impacted by his leadership. A few of the many boards and committees on which Larry has served include National Association of Federal Credit Unions, Credit Union Direct Corporation, and the Fannie Mae National Housing Advisory Council. Larry also served 28 years on the NC Credit Union League's board, and served 22 years on the board of CUNA Mutual Group. He currently serves as a member of the board for the Cooperative Council of NC.

A graduate of North Carolina State University, Larry has remained committed to his home state and local community. One of the seven cooperative principles focuses on "concern for the community" and Larry has always strived to do just that, not only in his career, but in his personal life. He has been active in the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce, and served on the boards of the Triangle Chapters of the American Red Cross and the American Heart Association. Larry lives in Raleigh where he is enjoying retirement with his wife, Judy.
